My Story
Hey all! My Name is Christian Crespo. I'm a licensed optometrist that practices in central NJ & NYC. More than that, I'm a husband and father of a fun & beautiful family. Before I decided to do optometry, I was pursuing a career in Biomedical engineering. However, I'm more of a people person and I believed pursing a doctorate in some form of medicine was going to be a better fit for me.
My journey as an optometrist did not stop my growth as an engineer, fortunately.
When I started my optometry career, I discovered many different needs in the eye care space and decided to take on the venture of designing tools and devices to make my patients lives easier. I wanted provide solutions to some of the biggest hurdles vision care.
Therefore, I decided to design and produce a bunch of tools and gadgets that would do just that by using 3D printing technology.
In 2019, I entered into the innovator contest at SUNY college of optometry. During optometry school, I wanted to get started on this journey to solve these big problems in eye care. Using 3D printing technology, I designed a device called a retinoscope, and won this competition. A retinoscope is a instrument eye doctors use to objectively determine ones prescription. These devices normally cost hundreds of dollars. With the help of 3D printing technology, I was able to design a device with the same function, but my design was nearly 95% more cost efficient. This meant I was able to produce eye care equipment at a remarkably low cost. Now, I could increase vision care access to impoverished areas of the world.
My hope is my devices and ideas will serve you well and help you to achieve a more convenient routine.
My devices are personally designed by me, 3D printed by my custom upgraded printers, tested by my patients, and then tuned to their recommendations.
